The Western Cape forms the most southerly portion of
South Africa and has an all-embracing coastline
bordered by both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The
terrain varies from impressive mountain ranges in
the Southern Cape to the semi-desert plains of the
Karoo. With its Mediterranean climate, the Western
Cape is a popular tourist destination and the summer
months (November to April) are considered the best
times to visit the area where there is little or no
rain and temperatures are constant. The Western Cape
offers a unique cultural and natural heritage,
combined with a rustic easy-going atmosphere
It is in Cape Town that the Rainbow Nation really
covers the range. Between beautiful Cape Dutch
homesteads, traditional dancers with painted faces
performing in the streets, the smell of spicy Malay
cooking and the taste of a well-made wine, this city
will overwhelm your senses.
Visitors will never be jaded in Cape Town. Table
Mountain offers some of the best climbing in the
world, and is situated in the city. The surfing is
incredible; the diving is cold but excellent. Go,
mountain biking, or sea kayaking - you may even see
whales or penguins. If the wind is favourable, you
could fly off Lionīs Head with a qualified tandem
paraglider pilot, and land on the beach in time for
sundowners.

Canal Walk or the Waterfront. There is lots of live
music, art and restaurants to fill your day. |
